Five points of procedure
Six questions, answered plainly
For the dining room we strongly recommend it, especially Fri/Sat and match-days. For the card room open tables, walk-ins are welcome before 7pm; after that we usually have a seat but cannot guarantee a chair. Tournaments always require registration.
Yes. Members may sign in up to three guests per evening. Guests are bound by the same house rules as members. After three evenings as a guest we would invite you to discuss membership.
Smart casual. A collared shirt is required in the card room after 7pm; trainers and shorts are not suitable after that hour. The snug and dining room have no specific dress requirements beyond respect for other guests.
No. Knavewick is 18+. A valid government-issued photo ID may be requested on arrival under our Challenge 25 policy. We regret we cannot accommodate guests under 18 at any hour.
For standard table bookings, free cancellation up to 24 hours before. For groups of 6+ and tournament registrations, a 20% deposit is taken at booking and is non-refundable if cancelled within 48 hours. For Tasting Suppers, 72 hours.
Yes. Call +44 131 226 9418 between 10am and 4pm Tuesday to Saturday. An answering service runs outside those hours and we respond the next trading day.
18+, members & guests
Knavewick operates under a Non-Remote Casino (Small) licence from the UK Gambling Commission and a premises licence from the City of Edinburgh Council. All guests are subject to a strict Challenge 25 policy. Accepted ID: UK driving licence (photocard), passport of any nationality, UK PASS-accredited card (Young Scot, Citizencard). Failure to produce valid ID will result in refusal of entry.
Our licence is a members-and-guests operation — members may sign in up to three guests per evening. First-time visitors are welcomed as members' guests; after three evenings as a guest we would invite you to discuss membership.
Full house rules, including the twelve card-room rules, are set out in Terms of Service § 9.

What we can, and what we cannot
What is accessible
- Ground floor is step-free to the dining room and snug.
- Step-free WC available on the ground floor.
- Dietary accommodations with 48 hours' notice.
- Hearing loop available on request.
- Staff trained in unobtrusive assistance.
What is not
- The card room is on the first floor, reached by a narrow Georgian staircase; there is no lift — a compromise of the listed building.
- We regret that the card room is not accessible to wheelchair users.
- We are happy to arrange a table in the dining room with card play if desired.
