These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of knavewick.com (the "Site") and, where applicable, your visit to Knavewick, 12 Forres Street, Edinburgh ("the Premises") operated by Knavewick Club Ltd ("we", "the House", "the Operator"). By using the Site or visiting the Premises, you accept these Terms.

1. Definitions

  • "the Site" — the website at knavewick.com and all sub-domains
  • "the Premises" — the licensed premises at 12 Forres Street, Edinburgh EH3 6BJ
  • "the House" / "we" — Knavewick Club Ltd
  • "you" / "your" — any visitor to the Site or the Premises
  • "Services" — the hospitality and licensed gaming services offered by the House
  • "Booking" — a reservation or tournament registration made through the Site or by telephone/email
  • "House Rules" — the rules governing conduct at the Premises, set out in § 9 below

2. Acceptance & Capacity

By using the Site or making a Booking, you represent that you are 18 years of age or older, possess the capacity to enter into binding contracts under Scots law and/or English law as applicable, and are providing accurate personal information.

3. Booking Contract

A Booking request submitted through the Site constitutes an offer by you to enter into a booking contract. A contract is formed only upon receipt by you of our confirmation email, which we aim to send within four hours during trading hours. If we cannot confirm, we will contact you within 24 hours.

The contract formed by confirmation is governed by these Terms, by the Consumer Rights Act 2015 where applicable, and by the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 as applicable.

4. Prices, Charges & Payment

  • All prices on the Site are in pounds sterling (£) and include VAT at the prevailing rate where chargeable.
  • The card-room buy-ins and tournament registration fees are set by the House and published on the Site at /card-room/ and /tournaments/.
  • Bookings do not require advance payment unless specified (typically for private-hire and tournament registration).
  • Prices shown at the time of Booking are the prices charged.

5. Cancellation & Modification

  • Standard table bookings: free cancellation up to 24 hours before the booking.
  • Groups of 6+ and tournament registrations: a 20% deposit is required at Booking. This deposit is non-refundable if cancelled within 48 hours of the booking date.
  • Tasting Suppers: a 50% deposit is required at Booking. Non-refundable within 72 hours of the booking date.
  • Full-house private hire: subject to individual contract, typically including a tiered deposit schedule — documented at the time of enquiry.
  • Cancellations must be made via email to hello@knavewick.com or by telephone to +44 131 226 9418.

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, a "right to cancel" does not apply to leisure services booked for a specific date or period (Regulation 28(1)(h)). This does not affect statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

6. Age Verification — Challenge 25

Knavewick operates a strict Challenge 25 policy. Any visitor who appears to be under 25 years of age will be required to produce one of the following valid forms of identification:

  • UK driving licence (photocard)
  • Passport (any nationality)
  • UK PASS-accredited card (e.g., Young Scot, Citizencard)
  • Other photographic ID carrying the PASS hologram

Failure to produce valid ID will result in refusal of entry. No refund is due in respect of refused entry on these grounds.

7. House Rights of Refusal

The House reserves the right to refuse entry or service to any person, or to require any person to leave the Premises, where reasonable grounds exist. Such grounds include but are not limited to:

  • Refusal to comply with House Rules or staff requests
  • Behaviour deemed likely to cause distress to other guests
  • Inability to produce valid ID where required
  • Apparent state of intoxication beyond the reasonable threshold for continuing service
  • Any conduct that conflicts with our Gambling Commission licence obligations

Where a deposit has been paid, we will refund any unused portion in cases of refusal unrelated to misconduct.

8. Gambling Commission Licence Compliance

All gaming at the Premises is conducted in accordance with the Gambling Act 2005 and the terms of our Non-Remote Casino (Small) operating licence 055682-N-334892-001 issued by the UK Gambling Commission. You agree:

  • Not to attempt to participate in gaming if you are under 18
  • To allow age verification under Challenge 25
  • To respect stake limits and betting rules as communicated by the House
  • Not to attempt collusion, cheating, or any form of manipulation at the tables
  • To accept the decisions of the Gaming Manager and Head Croupier as final on gaming matters, subject to your right to refer complaints under § 12 below

The House reports suspicious-activity indicators to relevant authorities under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 and Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. This reporting is a legal obligation; we do not disclose whether a report has been made.

9. House Rules (Card Room)

Ⅰ. Smart dress is required at all times; collared shirt required in the card room after 7pm. Trainers and shorts are not suitable in the card room.

Ⅱ. Mobile telephones are to be placed face-down on the table or silenced during active hands. Voice or video calls are not permitted in the card room; step into the snug or common areas.

Ⅲ. No audible commentary on a hand in progress at another table.

Ⅳ. Guests must be signed in by a member. Guests are subject to the same rules as members.

Ⅴ. Card-discussion limits: players are not to discuss their hand (folded or otherwise) while it remains live at the table.

Ⅵ. Chip-counts are to be kept visible and countable at all times.

Ⅶ. No food or drink (other than water) in the immediate playing area; cold plates and drinks are served on side tables at the dealer's direction.

Ⅷ. Tipping dealers is welcome but entirely optional; house policy is to pool and distribute dealer tokes equitably.

Ⅸ. Dealer's decision is final on gameplay matters. Disputes may be escalated to the Head Croupier or Gaming Manager on duty.

Ⅹ. The House reserves the right to remove or bar any guest for cause at its absolute discretion.

Ⅺ. Any behaviour likely to bring the House into disrepute with the Gambling Commission will result in immediate removal and reporting to authorities as applicable.

Ⅻ. All persons enter the Premises at their own risk; please mind the stairs, fireplaces, and historic door frames characteristic of a Georgian townhouse.

10. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
  • Breach of terms implied by section 12 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979, section 2 of the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982, or equivalent Scots-law provisions
  • Defective products under the Consumer Protection Act 1987
  • Any other liability which cannot lawfully be excluded under UK law

Subject to the above, our total liability for any loss or damage arising in connection with your Booking or visit is limited to the total amount paid or payable by you to us in respect of that Booking. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

We do not accept liability for items of value left unattended on the Premises. The House cloakroom is provided free of charge; its use is at the user's risk — please ask staff for a cloakroom ticket.

12. Complaints & Dispute Resolution

  • Gambling-specific disputes: the Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS) at ibas-uk.com — the Gambling Commission's approved Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) body for our licence type, or directly to the Gambling Commission via the public register
  • Data-protection matters: the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk (see § 8 of the Privacy Notice)

You also retain the right to seek resolution through the courts.

13. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by Scots law. Any dispute arising from or connected with these Terms shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Scotland. Where statutory consumer rights apply in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland, the relevant consumer law of the country of your habitual residence will be preserved to the extent required.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified on the Site for at least 14 days before taking effect. The version in force at the date of your Booking is the version that governs that Booking.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force.
